One of many posts: Utah and Lasik

I feel like we have been on tour! We just got back from a two week stay in Utah which was so wonderful. We had a great time visiting so many friends and lots of family. I am so sorry if we didn’t get to see some of you while we were there, but we will catch you next time=)

Our journey started nice and early, like really early! We woke up at 3:30 and were out the door by 4:20. Leaving so early is hard but it really helps Mr. Brett have an enjoyable journey and it helps us get to Utah by dinner time.

One of the many reasons we visited Utah this summer was for Sean to get LASIK! We have been considering it for a long time and decided that with a contribution from Sean’s grandma and a great tax return we would spring for this miracle. We decided to go with Hoopes vision in Utah rather than an optometrist in Albuquerque because my mom had her eyes done there years ago and gave glowing reviews and we have heard nothing but good things about their facility and doctors. The office takes up an entire floor and has tons and tons of awesome machines. There are some really nice receptionists that Brett loves and there is a nice lady that wonders around offering warm chocolate chip cookies, mmmm. Here are Sean’s last pictures with glasses: The lasers are enclosed in a glass room so you can watch the entire surgery. They show the actual surgery on a big screen tv above the laser so it was a little disorienting to see them actually operate on my husbands eye, but really cool too! They first put him under this one laser and cut the top of the cornea to create a flap so they can get to the lens of the eye to correct the vision. Sean said after this part he was blind and it was strange. They put him in this massage chair and talked to him about what to do after surgery then they took him to the laser that actually corrects the vision. The doctor used this metal tool to flip the cornea to the side and then the laser did its thing then voila Sean could see. He said his vision was kinda smudgy, like looking through glasses that had been smudged but he could see. Luckily they gave him some valium right before the surgery because he said his eyes stung something awful right after and the medicine helped him take a 2 hour nap! After his nap he felt completly fine, vision was still a little smudgy but no problems. When we returned the next day his vision was 20/15. What a miracle!!

He did have to sleep with these funny shield things for a week, he he:And no jet skiing for 3 months=)

Speaking of eyes, did you know Mr. Brett has a brown stipe in his eye? They are getting bluer every day but he has one brown stripe in his left eye and I found a picture where you can kind of see it:
