While we were in White Rock we re-painted one of the guest bedrooms. It was so much fun to work with Sean and Mom P and learn how to do new things. We think the finished product turned out rather nicely. The room wasn’t completely put back together by the time we left but it was really close=)
Step 1: Remove Wallpaper. Who knew that scoring the wallpaper is like driving a car on the wall? Brett did!
Step 2: Paint the ceiling. They now have this really cool paint that looks purple until it dries so it makes painting a white surface a lot easier. We DID NOT have that paint=) Maybe next time. Sean sported his Dad’s working hat for a while.
Step 3: Remove old baseboards. The new ones haven’t been put in yet but hopefully soon. It was especially hard to get the wood off the wall that had been wallpapered since the glue had dripped down.
Step 4: Spackle all the little holes. This room was lived in by lots of adorable boys who had tons of posters and models and certificates and calendars to put up. The result was tons of little holes which looked very festive after they had the pink spackle in them. It looked like a room full of calamine lotion.
Step 5: Texture and prime the wallpaper wall. After we removed all the wallpaper the wall was raw. It needed to have texture which we bought in little aerosol cans then we put primer up.
Step 6: Taping. Since we removed the baseboards we only had to tape around the ceiling and window and doors so it was a lot easier than the last project we did.
Step 7: Paint the walls blue. We got one gallon of paint which was sadly not enough and by the time we realized this the local hardware store was closed, so Mom and Dad P drove thirty minutes away to get more paint. We finished at 11 PM exhausted!
Step 8: Put in new outlets and light fixture.
Step 9: Put the furniture in place. Doesn’t it look beautiful??! We had so much fun and think it turned out rather nicely=)
I'm so impressed with all the home improvements you've learned how to do between the Zaelit and Peterson homes! you'll use those skills for a lifetime in your future home! the room looks beautiful, so much lighter and brighter and rearranging the furniture is a good idea too.
ReplyDeletecongrats on Brett sleeping longer! I don't think we stopped the morning feed until we were almost completely weaned, so that's a great step!
Brielle just moved to her big girl bed and despite the fact that she can get up and out and open the door, she only seems to do it when she's for sure ready to get up.
It was fun (and a lot of work) but definitely worth it for the final product. And most (if not all) of the hardest work was done by Sean and Jennie--thanks so much for all your help!! I think I found a new bedspread for the room today!

That looked exhausting. I'm tired just reading about it. It does, however, look awesome. So much better! And Mr. Brett is getting so big!
ReplyDeleteSo, for a second I thought that very first picture was the finished wall, and you'd decided to do a crazy swirly design all over it. I actually really liked it, but I like the finished product too. :)
