Brett and I departed last Tuesday morning at 4:30 AM to go to Utah. Now Mr. Brett normally falls right back to sleep when we wake him so early and put him in a dark moving car. Not so on this trip. I think he was so excited to have Papa and Mimi in the front seat, he just couldn’t calm down. In fact he only slept for about an hour the entire day! That means by the time his head hit his pillow he was lacking 5-6 hours of sleep. Now one would think that such an exhausting day and lack of sleep would result in the little man sleeping in a little, again not so. He woke up 3 times throughout the night and decided to get up for good at 6 AM, 2 hours earlier than normal! I was a little grumpy with the child. He was also a little grumpy with the world! We went to visit my friend Mikey for a few hours where Brett cried on and off and mostly just snuggled to me. We then went to see my Grandma. I intended for him to get a little nap at her house, I even brought a crib so he would have a place to sleep. We were there for about 3 minutes when he started screaming. Nothing I could do would make him stop. After 10 min, we decided to forget the visit and head back to my parents for a little nap. We returned home and had a small lunch then Brett slept for a few short hours (way less than he needed) He woke up tired and sad. Luckily we were able to redeem the day a little with a trip back to get my Grandma and in to City Creek for some dinner and a trip to the Disney Store. Traveling with kids is such an adventure!
I was really happy that Brett remembered my parents so well and went straight to them the instant we got there.
Here he is pretending he’s not tired out of his mind!
Looking at the water at City Creek
After our outing to City Creek we went to the cemetery where they just put in my Grandfathers stone. It was really beautiful and Brett loved the twirly things.
On Thursday we went to the zoo with Neil, Rebecca, Kaden, Alexis, Mom and Dad P, and Rebecca’s mom Carol. My parents met us for lunch up there.
Brett liked this otter statue:
Brett and Kaden being so tall like the giraffe:
Since my mom works at the zoo she gets us amazing deals. She got us all in for free. She got us half off on lunch. And she got everyone on the carousel for free. The job has a few perks=) Thanks Mom!
Later that evening Mom P went to a ladies night dinner with the bride Natalie, so we had Dad P over for some hamburgers. Brett was convinced he should be the one to grill. He decided lining cars up was a good substitute.
On Friday morning we went to see my dad at his work. Brett LOVED Dad’s office as it is full of every little Pixar toy you can imagine. He especially loved the Lightning McQueen and Mater.
After we visited my dad, we headed to visit Sean and Sam Christensen, some great friends who used to live in Albuquerque. It was lots of fun to see them!
You may be wondering where the heck Sean is? He had to work through all this chaos and fun. He caught a flight up to Salt Lake and arrived about 2. Later that night we had the rehearsal dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory. It was really delicious and so fun to see all our family together. I kept looking for Brian though! Here is Brielle, she is a little girl who knows how to eat spaghetti!
Here is her little sister Lily who also knows how to eat spaghetti:
Here is Brett, a little boy who refuses to eat most foods. When he does eat, it must be with a fork and lots of napkins.
One of my favorite moments from this meal was when half way through Brett looked at us, folded his arms, and bowed his head. Thanks Brett for reminding us to pray=) Here is Brett and Brielle playing on Brielle’s bed. They became fast friends once we got them out of the car=)
