Brett's Birthday Celebrations and First Day of Kindergarten

Brett and Alana have really enjoyed being outside this summer! They love to jump on the trampoline and these 88 cent squirt bottles are way better than any water gun!

On the Wednesday before Brett started school he had an assessment with his teacher. we went and saw his classroom and he was so so excited! His teacher was really nice and gave him a little tour of where he will hang his backpack, where he can use the bathroom, and where his cubby is. He was so excited about all of it! She then sat down with him to do an assessment to see where he is. She asked him all his letters and sounds, the days of the week, if he could read any sight words, and did tons of math problems with him. I was so impressed with how complex of math problems he was able to solve. He’s such a smart little guy!

Lizzie fell asleep in her jumper one morning which was made even cuter with all the memories it brought back of Alana doing the same thing=)

We went to Shopko and got new fall jackets for Brett and Alana and they were so excited they insisted on wearing them the next morning on our way to the Museum of Curiosity.

We met up with Whitney, Kirsten, and Reagan for a fun time at the museum. We have gotten together almost weekly with these awesome friends in the last year since we moved to Utah and its a little sad that our new school schedule will make it a lot more difficult to get together!

This isn’t the best picture, but its the only one I have. We went to my parents house and slept over so that we could paint the new sewing room Saturday morning. This was my old bedroom and I painted it yellow and put up the fun green vines as a YW project. It was sad, but mostly really fun to watch the kids paint over all that green.

We had a friend birthday party for Brett on the Saturday before his birthday . He has wanted a Piñata since his cousin Lexi’s birthday last September, so he was giddy when I gave him the job of stuffing the piñata. He did an awesome job!

We started the party by coloring some fun Zootopia and Star Wars pages and making fun party hats:

We then played a donut on the string game and the kids were hilarious to watch. It was actually really hard for them!

We tried to have a relay race, but I either didn’t explain it very well or the kids are just a little young, but it was fun anyway! It turned into a fun freeze dance game.

We pulled out the piñata next ad it was soooo much fun!

Our friend Matt helped finish off the piñata, he had a really fun time doing it =)

We had cupcakes then watched some Zootopia while we waited for parents to arrive.

After the party we met Grandpa and Grandma at Chuck A Rama (TERRIBLE name for a restaurant!) for a yummy dinner!

On Sunday we went to church, then had Grandma, Grandpa, and Great Grandma out for pizza cake and presents. Brett got a storm trooper bike, magna tiles, walkie talkies, a basketball game, and some pretty awesome cards!

This cake was seriously delicious! We had to share with neighbors so we didn’t eat it all ourselves!


Monday was Brett’s actual birthday so we played with new toys, and went to the park with friends. Then as soon as Sean got home Brett got to open his presents from us. He got some dinosaur lace cards, 2 new Ralph Mouse books, a Judy Hopps police cruiser, and another fun car from Alana and Lizzie (which he actually picked out a month ago at Kid to Kid =))

He made these pictures for Sean and I to say thank you for the gift we were going to give him, such a sweetie!

We went to a park/splashpad on Tuesday. Alana, Lizzie, and I enjoyed the teeter totter while Brett ran back and forth from the water and the climbing wall.

And then the first day of school came! Brett looked so handsome in his new clothes and he was so so excited. Sean came home at lunch so he could help us do the drop off. I was especially grateful since I was a bit emotional about the whole thing. The funny thing is, i’m so glad he’s getting bigger and growing, its just hard to realize these huge moments are already happening in his life.

He told both Sean and I that he was a little nervous that he wouldn’t make any friends. As soon as we walked up, he found three boys with Star Wars shirts and had no problem introducing himself.

Alana was furious when we dropped Brett off. She saw the fun playground and swings and wanted to go play. It was recess for the other kids and we just didn’t have time to go swing in that moment. She was really upset and just kept putting her hands on her hips and saying “Im really angry at you” I finally suggested we paint after trying a whole other list of things she refused. She was excited to paint and made a beautiful picture. I think Alana has been enjoying the time we get with brother at school. She gets to play with whatever toy she wants in whatever way she wants and she gets to be my helper. Its really fun! She does ask where Brett is a lot though.

One morning we woke up and it was pretty chilly so we documented Lizzie’s first hoodie experience, it was so darling!
