On Christmas Eve morning Sean got up and went to the hospital to get his covid-19 vaccine! What an incredible blessing!! When he got home we let the kids exchange their sibling gifts. It is a fun tradition we have where the kids get to open the gifts from each other a day early. That way they get to enjoy those gifts without all the other stuff. This year Brett gave Alana a paint pallet and Lizzie a little matchbox size car. He also wrote them the sweetest notes on cards with cute pictures of dogs. Lizzie gave Brett a stuffed bear and Alana a barbie bed. Alana gave Lizzie some fairy wings and Brett a decoration for his room (a star weight for balloons.
Usually for Christmas Eve we have big party with Mom and Dad P, Neil and Rebecca, my parents and sometimes Rebecca's parents and anyone else that we invite. Brian and Jill just moved here in mid December so we are so excited that we will all get to celebrate together (hopefully) next year. This year with trying to keep gathering small, we visited Neil and Rebecca during the day and had a fun chat. Sean and Neil tried out a switch game and we gave them all blankets and a game (it was our turn to gift them this year). We stopped at Chick Fil A and the gas station and then came home and did a virtual Nativity program with the Peterson Family and Mama Judy (Michal's mom). It was very fun, although I wish I would have thought to have the kids get dressed up before we started.
Brett has been working really hard at making a game. He designs the cards on a program called gimp by either digitally drawing them or importing a photo. He then exports the cards to pages and prints them out. Our printer doesn't play nice with cardstock so he then glues the page to card stock and then cuts them out. He showed us all the cards and we played through it after the Nativity play. I am so proud of what he has created. It needs a few tweaks but its so well done and he has learned a lot!
My mom and dad came for dinner. I made ham, rolls, twice baked potatoes, and corn. We ate and had sugar cookies for dessert. Mom and Dad stayed to watch the kids open their Christmas jammies. Bretts were way too small and Alana's felt itchy, but Lizzie loved hers, lol! Mom and Dad left and we watched some of the movie Bugs Life and then the kids wanted to have a sleepover in Alana's room. They got all set up, we read some stories, put out cookies for Santa and then they wanted to go to sleep. It was only 8:30 and I couldn't believe they were so quiet. Alana and Lizzie fell asleep fairly quickly but Brett had a harder time. I ended up reading Keeper of the Lost Cities to him and snuggling for a bit. He went to sleep around 11.
